I recommend watching the movie «Revolver», 2005, directed by Guy Ritchie. I’ll say right away that I really like this filmmaker guy. Of course, not all of his movies are high-quality pictures, and there’s no one whose work is 100% successful and interesting to everyone, but a number of his crime or crime-comedy genre works are definitely top for me.

You’ve probably seen some of his latest movies: “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword”, “The Gentlemen” — in my opinion, excellent pictures with a non-trivial plot, great acting, and wonderful subtle humor.

But let’s get back to the movie «Revolver». I like it for several reasons at once:
- A cool storyline concept
- An intricate narrative line
- A large amount of philosophical theses (not trivial ones!)
- Jason Statham in a role atypical for him (I like him more that way)
- The events of the movie are measured, but there’s also a certain dynamic present
- A movie to “think about”, and I love that
The plot is based on the principle of the game of chess and the peculiarities of a con (mostly for money, but not only), which is an atypical combination, but a very interesting one.
By the way, I recently posted a quote from this movie and shared a couple of thoughts.
A separate word should be said about the aesthetics of the movie. Here everything is quite typical for Guy Ritchie, I’d call this style “elegant gangster”. In the movie: long black cars, stylish brand-new classic suits, a color palette matching the events and the mood of the main character, the musical accompaniment, and much more.
This movie is one of my favorites, so I confidently recommend watching it.
Here’s the trailer for the movie in Russian. Unfortunately, the trailer is only available in decent quality in the original.
